This event on Sat. Across the street from the Common

This event is a continuation of eight years of progressive protests against Trump and the MAGA Republican values he represents.  We will present our own alternative vision of the world we want in order to counter his support of corporate greed and disregard for democracy as well as the attacks his allies plan on  human, reproductive, social, economic, health and environmental justice through their Project 2025 (cf. www.project2025.org/ ).  We oppose US support of wars against civilians, including the war in Gaza, Trump’s proposed war on immigrants, continued military overspending , proposed cuts in public health, education and welfare supports, as well as the 2022 Supreme Court denial of a Constitutional right to abortion and other federal plans to undermine reproductive healthcare.

The weekend of Jan 17-20 2025 will be a national weekend celebrating MLK and his Help over Hate values, and will be sponsored by Indivisible as well as the January 18 People’s March (formerly the Women’s March) in Washington DC. The tradition of this national event harkens back to the Presidential pre-inaugural 2017 Women’s March in DC.  That event also initiated many other coinciding Women’s Marches around the country in various cities, including a large one here in Greenfield MA.

At our local event on Jan. 18 2025 we will showcase local alternative visions and the mutual aid we have been building in the River Valley, particularly Franklin County, among peace, environmental and  civil rights groups supporting marginalized communities, including  women,  LGBT people, immigrants, people of color, workers and low-income people.

Our Sat. Jan 18 event will follow the weekly Peace Vigil on the Greenfield Common (11am-noon) and will convene in the sanctuary of the Second Congregational  Church beginning at 12:15. We will bring together local civil society groups, speakers, musicians and the public, who are invited to share hopes and plans for the coming year. The program, will include space to share information and meet with those interested, as well as donated beverages and  a simple lunch.

This is our moment to remind Washington elites — and Americans everywhere — where the power truly lives: with the people.

Let’s make it count.
