"PEOPLE'S MARCH" sign waving in Marysville, WA

Update, Fri Jan 17: We march (wave signs) tomorrow! If you haven't signed up to join us at this community event please do so. Being on the attendee list is the only way to receive updates and last-minute details parking information, and the like. If someone is going to volunteer their time I want to make sure they're informed. Thank you for your interest and for helping make a statement: we will not be fooled into fascism!  - Jennifer

We all march for different reasons, but we march for the same cause: to defend our rights and our future.

If you believe that decisions about your body should remain yours, that books belong in libraries, not on bonfires, that healthcare is a right, not a privilege for the wealthy; if you believe in the power of free speech and protest to sustain democracy; or if you want an economy that works for the people who power it—then this march is for you.

The People’s March weekend is about one thing: our power.

It’s a bold demonstration of the resilience of joyful resistance:

  • We gather to unite the people who’ve been the backbone of resistance for generations—and to welcome even more
  • We gather to remind civil servants they answer to us
  • We gather to inspire, energize, and drive change long after the day is done.

This is our moment to remind fellow Americans everywhere, especially our neighbors here in Marysville, that we are not helpless or hopeless. The power in our government lies with US, and this peaceful sign waving is a demonstration of that. We're here, we're paying attention to decisions being made in Washington, D.C., and we plan to work together with our neighbors to create the government we want.

Come join us for joyful sign waving! Let’s make this moment count.

*Details*

The plan - We're going to stand on our sidewalk or street corner in downtown Marysville, WA, with your own sign if you choose, and calmly wave to our neighbors driving by. We will yield to any pedestrians on the sidewalk where we're standing so as to not block their path of travel. We will stay out of the path of vehicles, will not walk or lean over into lanes of traffic, and will walk carefully and mindfully as needed through any nearby parking lot. We will ensure any trash is packed out with us, and that no signs are left there or posted in place because doing so is not allowed under city code. Then we're going to take our temporary signs and go home to warm up, leaving our sidewalk as clean or cleaner than we found it, knowing that we did a small part to let our neighbors know they're not alone and we can work together moving forward.

What to bring - yourself! And a positive, neighborly attitude. Maybe a bottle of water? Sunglasses, hand warmers, a sign if you'd like. If you know you need help with a sign let me know in advance.

Signs - make your own, get help from a friend, or let me know you need sign help! We don't have official signs of any kind to hand out that day, as this isn't a political campaign which purchased candidate yard signs. What we're bringing is homemade, and I hope to have an extra couple when I show up that day just in case. Not everyone in attendance needs a sign. You can be part of our group and just wave at folks or take turns with someone holding a sign, or just stand there with your smiling face. This is a freeform gathering meant to show our neighbors who also oppose the incoming administration's policies that we're here and they're not alone in their concerns.

Parking - street parking is available around this area. More detailed parking suggestions will be emailed to registered participants the day before the event along with any updates to the plan.

Attire - dress comfortably. One week in advance the forecast for the day is supposed to be sunny and a bit chilly, so dress warmly. Jeans, sneakers, jacket, warm hat, whatever. The People's March is not asking attendees to wear any certain color or article of clothing.

Please feel free to message me through this website with any questions. I'd love to hear your ideas and questions! - Jennifer
