Saranac Lake Make Billionaires Pay

Local organizations including High Peaks DSA, Adirondack Voters for Change, Show Up, Third Act, and John Brown Lives! are co-hosting a peaceful “Make Billionaires Pay” event in Saranac Lake’s Riverside Park from 3–5 p.m. on September 20, 2025, rain or shine.
It’s not just a rally, but a chance to have fun, make local connections, and send an important message to state and federal leaders that cuts to Medicaid and other social safety net programs resulting from the One Big Beautiful Bill will devastate our region and harm our communities.
The event kicks off with live entertainment by the People’s Chorus, who will engage the crowd in lively songs. Shortly after, a series of speakers will deliver brief remarks before Soma Beats takes the stage and leads the crowd in a rousing walk from Riverside Park to Lake Flower Avenue.
Several local organizations will be tabling at the event, offering the community an opportunity to learn more about how they can start taking action locally. This rally is a peaceful demonstration and a condemnation of the disastrous Big Beautiful Bill and the billionaires it enriches.
Those looking for a full day of activism can also meet at the Saranac Lake Free Library at 11 a.m. as Third Act makes a stop as part of their Sun Day: Wool Relay en route to Albany for the Sun Day Festival.
Rural areas are being hit especially hard by the failure of government officials to prevent the accumulation of wealth among the top 1% of the population. Healthcare programs are critically understaffed, causing young adults to die at an alarming rate. Our communities have been bought out by corporations, leaving the next generation with nowhere to call home. Schools are underfunded, people are losing their jobs, and businesses are closing. This isn’t the future we were promised, all because our politicians have refused to make billionaires pay.
