Take Back Roe v. Wade. March on FCLNY Headquarters
Join us in a march on the headquarters of “Feminists Choosing Life of New York” – we will take back what is ours!
For decades, conservatives have tried to take away our victories, our rights, and our history. Roe v. Wade was decided on January 22, 1973, when the Supreme Court recognized abortion as a fundamental right. Eleven years later, President Ronald Reagan declared January 22 National Sanctity of Life Day. George H. W. Bush did the same thing, as did George W. Bush. These declarations falsified history. They erased a major victory in the struggle for sexual and reproductive freedom. They took the day when women's right to an abortion was legally authorized and gave it a name opposed to this right. On the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we march to take back not just our history but also our rights. Even though the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, the struggle is not over. It is beginning again and depends on all our energies.
Our march will be on January 20th -- the day Donald Trump declared to be Sanctity of Life Day in 2019. We will turn the headquarters of Feminists Choosing Life of New York (FCLNY) into a graveyard for their lies and propaganda, transforming their space into a space that tells the truth: pro-life is a lie. They don’t care if women die. Denial of abortion healthcare is a death sentence for women. Without militant opposition and organizing, it will be again. By turning the FCLNY lawn into a graveyard, we confront the reactionaries with this fact. Abortion is essential healthcare and healthcare is a human right.
Let’s put a nail in the coffin of FCLNY’s propaganda. Death to their lies means life for everyone in need of sexual and reproductive healthcare. Join us in a funeral march that will bury their lies under the truth that forced pregnancy is violent, harmful, and criminal.
We expect that most FCLNY members will be in Washington, DC at a March for Life Rally celebrating the end of Roe v. Wade. Some might stay behind, but we’ll be ready for them.
At 5:00, we will park and gather in the rear car park of the World Gym at 1717 East Avenue. At 5:30 we will march to the FCLNY headquarters at 1545 East Avenue.
The Take Back Roe v. Wade action is being organized by the Coalition for Climate and Reproductive Justice, which includes activists from Rochester DSA, Extinction Rebellion (Rochester), the Party for Socialism and Liberation (Finger Lakes), Rochester NOW (National Organization for Women), and Planned Parenthood. The Coalition opposes forces and systems that treat people and the planet as resources to be exploited for the profit of the few.
